He is the creator of the institute&rsquo;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biologyworthyoflife.org\/\" title=\"http:\/\/www.biologyworthyoflife.org\/\">BiologyWorthyofLife.org<\/a> website and the editor of <em><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.netfuture.org\/\" title=\"http:\/\/www.netfuture.org\/\">NetFuture<\/a><\/em><\/em>, the institute&#8217;s online newsletter about technology and human responsibility which the<em> New York Times <\/em>has called an &ldquo;undiscovered national treasure.&rdquo; He is the author of <em><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0596526806\/the-new-atlantis-20\" title=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0596526806\/the-new-atlantis-20\">Devices of the Soul: Battling for Our Selves in an Age of Machines<\/a><\/em><\/em> (O&rsquo;Reilly, 2007), <em><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1565920856\/the-new-atlantis-20\" title=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1565920856\/the-new-atlantis-20\">The Future Does Not Compute: Transcending the Machines in Our Midst<\/a><\/em><\/em> (O&rsquo;Reilly, 1995), and co-author of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0813124840\/002-1087399-0708803?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=the-new-atlantis-20&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=0813124840\" title=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0813124840\/002-1087399-0708803?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=the-new-atlantis-20&amp;linkCode=xm2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creativeASIN=0813124840\">Beyond Biotechnology: The Barren Promise of Genetic Engineering<\/a><\/em> (University Press of Kentucky, 2008). Mr. Talbott also serves as editor of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.natureinstitute.org\/pub\/ic\/index.htm\"><em>In Context<\/em><\/a>, the Nature Institute&rsquo;s twice-yearly hardcopy journal. Before coming to the Nature Institute, Mr. Talbott did software work and technical writing for engineering organizations of computer manufacturers, ran a family organic farm in Oregon, and completed academic work in philosophy.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Talbott&rsquo;s primary undertaking right now is a critique of conventional science with a view toward establishing the foundations of a new, qualitative science.
